“The Academy courses at BASIS Independent McLean model and teach civil discourse through primary text analysis. As a result, students are deeply prepared for high-level collegiate work and are primed to be active participants and leaders in our larger society.”
- Peter Bezanson, CEO of BASIS.ed
Join us for an Upper School Information Session! Open to families exploring grades 8-10, you will receive an overview of the philosophy and mission of BASIS Independent Schools and learn more about the program options at the Upper School level, including The Academy at BASIS Independent McLean.
The Academy at BASIS Independent McLean is a seminar-style, writing-intensive humanities program built around history, literature, and philosophy. The Academy will serve BASIS Independent McLean students in grades 8-12, starting with grades 8-10 in the 2019-2020 school year.
Students fulfill humanities requirements specific to The Academy, including Honors History Seminars, AP Seminar and AP Research, while continuing to take all other courses with their BASIS Independent McLean peers. The Academy deeply prepares students for college-level reading, writing, and discussion. Furthermore, through AP Seminar and AP Research, students in The Academy have the opportunity to earn the AP Capstone Diploma, an accolade that supplements the honor of a BASIS Diploma.
